The role
What you'll do
Ordered by share of time, largest first.
→ Own payments performance. Acceptance rate, fraud and chargeback rates and cost per transaction across all verticals and providers. You define the KPIs, monitor them and report to management.
→ Own fraud and risk. Together with data and tech you set rules and scoring thresholds, AVS/3DS rules and dispute handling.
→ Set the provider strategy. Select and consolidate PSPs and payment methods, including for our Shopify shops, and onboard new ones with IT, Finance, Customer Service, Legal and Procurement.
→ Negotiate group-wide terms. Consolidate conditions across PayPal/Braintree, Adyen, Klarna, Stripe and Shopify, and track contractual commitments.
→ Shape the tech roadmap. Prioritise payment topics with tech and sign off payment-related releases.
→ Be the payments contact. For PSPs, acquirers and card schemes outside, and for any payments question inside the group.
→ Give Finance clean data. Support payment cost planning, and provide data and answers for reconciliation and month-end closing, which stay with Finance.
What you bring
Skills and experience, not personality types.
Must have
→ Typically 7+ years in payments in e-commerce or fintech, several of them with responsibility for acceptance, fraud and payment costs in a multi-PSP setup.
→ A track record in PSP negotiations and/or migrations, including reading PSP contracts, Interchange+ invoices and volume commitments.
→ Deep knowledge of card payments: authorisation flow, decline codes, AVS/CVV/SCA/3DS, interchange, chargeback lifecycle, Visa/Mastercard rules.
→ Hands-on fraud prevention: rule engines, risk scoring, threshold tuning, and measuring false positives against fraud losses.
→ Enough technical depth in PSP integrations (e.g. tokenisation, webhooks) to work eye to eye with developers, and you query payment data yourself (SQL or similar).
→ Negotiation-level English.
Nice to have
→ Working knowledge of PCI DSS and PSD2.
→ Hands-on experience with PayPal/Braintree, Adyen, Klarna, Stripe or Shopify Payments.
→ Using AI tools to speed up payment analysis or reporting.
Why this role, now
What you get to work with, not what we demand.
Scale
Volume worth optimising
20+ own shops and 1,000+ partner stores mean that small gains in acceptance or fees add up to real money.
20+ shops · multi-PSP · multi-market
Mandate
Decision rights, not just advice
You own the payment KPIs and sign off payment releases, with a direct line to Finance leadership.
KPIs · releases · roadmap
Timing
Terms up for consolidation
Provider conditions across the group are being brought together, and the Shopify shops need their payments set up. You shape both from the start.
PayPal/Braintree · Adyen · Klarna · Stripe · Shopify
Is this you?
Sounds like you?
→ You take decisions and own the outcome, including the trade-offs between conversion, fraud and cost.
→ You set priorities across departments and get them implemented, the tech roadmap included.
→ You explain payment topics clearly to management and to teams outside payments.
→ You'd rather prove a fee saving or an acceptance gain with data than argue about it.
Probably not a fit if…
→ you want to lead a large team from day one. You start as the senior owner of payments and lead through influence across teams.
→ you prefer pure strategy. A good share of the week is hands-on: data, rule tuning, provider calls.
→ you'd rather go deep on one provider than run several providers, methods and markets in parallel.
→ you're looking for a fully remote role. We work hybrid from Riga.
